Engraved Plaques and Power of Recognition

"The highest reward that God gives us for good work is the ability to do better." ~Elbert Hubbard

Think of  groups, organizations or specific person whom you'd like to award with customized or DIY (Design- It-Yourself) engraved plaques. Whose name pops to your mind first? Your mom or dad? Is it your passion-driven generous boss or the enthusiastic and down-to-earth church pastor? Your hardworking and understanding wife or husband maybe? Or perhaps the brave volunteer fire fighters in your area? It could be any group or somebody who has truly inspired you with their sincere endeavors. I already have a list in mind---and it's a long one:)

According to a recent *Globoforce survey, “Sixty-nine percent say they would work harder if they felt their efforts were better recognized. And seventy-eight percent said being recognized motivates them in their job.”

*a semi-annual survey that examines the current state of HR leaders’ employee engagement and recognition practices and their impact on performance management.

My sibling just recently received a plaque of recognition from her company. She already had previous awards yes, she's an achiever. This time, she's this year's Best Customer Service Employee within NCR North Division, NCR Operations Group. We are so proud of her (as always)! She was just a simple trainee several years ago doing mostly field work which in my opinion is very hard and a high-risk job. She encountered a number of accidents plus health related problems. On her fifth year she was absorbed and joined the regular payroll, field stint still included. Now she's still working for roughly a decade for the same company. Still jolly and motivated after all these years.

When you look someone in the eye and thank them sincerely, it means a lot. In front of other people even more so. People always appreciate sincere thanks or a pat on the back, and they appreciate being valued as an individual even more. It doesn't matter where you are working or what work you do, motivation plays an important and crucial role. Awards form an important part of  the motivation system in our society.

Who wouldn't feel extra special when presented with name plaques, trophies, badges, personalized gifts or a specially crafted award with custom plaque engraving? Individuals have a hardwired desire for social distinction. Awards as a device motivates individuals, (just like my sis) to exert effort and genuinely motivated people are capable of dramatic achievements.

Being able to motivate people is key to your success at work, home and in the future because no one can achieve anything alone. We all need the help of others. Employers, sports organizations, or schools that continue to recognize, appreciate and acknowledge someone's own special abilities, qualities, contributions, efforts or success will also ensure their desire to excel with boosted morale.

May it be cheap plaques, or most expensive plaques with custom engraving, it really is the thought that counts. It's not just receiving that's fun. Giving also makes us feel happy ergo it's good to our health. Award someone today!

Before I forget,  who's on your list?  :) :)
