Grave of the Fireflies (火垂るの墓 Hotaru no haka) is a 1988 Japanese animated drama film written and directed by Isao Takahata and animated by Studio Ghibli. It is based on the 1967 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by Akiyuki Nosaka.
An achingly tragic anti-war film. It portrays a story of survival in WWII of young Seita and his little sister Setsuko. The struggles of these two would really touch your heart. In war, there are no real winners.
If you like the movies Miracle in Cell No.7, Children of Heaven; then I think you'll love this. I wept a few times while watching this. No spoilers, just watch this, I recommend it.
